What is the lowest recorded IQ score?

Answer

If you want to know the record holder for the lowest IQ in the world, then you're in the right place. Many people say that George Bush, Paris Hilton, or Miss South Carolina have the lowest IQ. But in fact those claims have no basis. Usually an IQ under 70 is categorized as "Definite feeble-mindedness", 5% of people have an IQ under 70 and this is generally considered as the benchmark for "mental retardation", a condition of limited mental ability in that it produces difficulty in adapting to the demands of life. However, people with smooth brains or lissencaphaly tend to get the lowest IQ's, which is around 20. Adaptive behavior ratings scales can go lower, but there's really no point, because once you get to IQ's that low, there's virtually no real difference in performance. And since IQ scores are considered to be confidential, it would be extremely unethical for a person's IQ score to be revealed in public.
Did you know that Lissencephaly, which literally means smooth brain, is a rare brain formation disorder caused by defective neuronal migration during the 12th to 24th weeks of gestation, resulting in a lack of development of brain folds (gyri) and grooves (sulci). Children with lissencephaly are severely neurologically impaired and often die within several months of birth.
Symptoms: Affected children display severe psychomotor retardation, failure to thrive, seizures, and muscle spasticity or hypotonia. Other symptoms of the disorder may include unusual facial appearance, difficulty swallowing, and anomalies of the hands, fingers, or toes.
Treatment for those with lissencephaly is symptomatic and depends on the severity and locations of the brain malformations. Supportive care may be needed to help with comfort and nursing needs. Seizures may be controlled with medication and hydrocephalus may require shunting. If feeding becomes difficult, a gastrostomy tube may be considered.[1]
